August 1-7 is World Breastfeeding Week

World Breastfeeding Week - August 1-7, 2004

Are you getting ready for the birth of a baby? Choosing how you will feed your baby is one of the most important decisions you will make as a parent.  Breastfeeding saves time and money for new parents.  Breastfed babies are less likely to get sick with ear infections, colds, flu, meningitis or have diaper rash.  This can mean fewer trips to the doctor, less medicine to buy and less missed time from work.  If you choose to breastfeed, it is best to give up caffeine, alcohol and cigarettes.  They have harmful chemicals that can pass into your breast milk.  Some medications can pass into breast milk and can be harmful to your baby.  Your doctor or a breastfeeding coordinator at your WIC clinic can answer any questions you may have about breastfeeding.
