COMMUNICABLE DISEASE

The Hamilton County Public Health Department investigates all communicable disease reports and provides educational materials to residents.

 

FLU CLINICS

Influenza vaccinations are provided to Hamilton County residents at annual fall clinics held throughout the county. For information about pandemic influenza and updates visit: www.nyhealth.gov or www.pandemicflu.gov.

 

RABIES CLINICS

Rabies vaccinations for dogs and cats are available at annual spring clinics throughout the county.

 

CHRONIC DISEASE PROGRAM

Educational materials and programs on chronic diseases are available to all Hamilton County residents.

 

BLOOD PRESSURE CLINIC PROGRAM

Blood pressure screening clinics are held bi-monthly in most towns in the county for residents age 60 and older.  Educational materials are given out to participants and referrals are made to physicians as needed.  See our monthly clinic calendar for schedule.

 

SEXUALLY TRANSMITTED DISEASE PROGRAM

Educational materials are provided to county residents, schools and community agencies on sexually transmitted diseases and ways to minimize the spread of these diseases. 

 

HIV COUNSELING AND TESTING PROGRAM

Confidential HIV counseling and testing is available to all County residents by appointment.  Educational materials regarding HIV/AIDS are available to the community as well.  Referrals are made as appropriate.

 

TUBERCULOSIS (TB) MANAGEMENT PROGRAM

The TB management program provides tuberculosis testing and educational materials to all Hamilton County residents upon request.  TB patients are also provided with home visits as appropriate.

 

HEALTH EDUCATION

A variety of programs are available throughout the year such as bike rodeos and health fairs. 

 

LYME DISEASE

Lyme disease is a bacterial infection caused by the bite of an infected deer tick.  Symptoms include a rash at or near the site of the tick bite that can resemble a “bulls-eye” and appears between three days to one month after the tick bite.
